Since we started in 2012, our Conversational French group has had several inspiring leaders and our French has improved.  We aim to be speakers of French that are confident enough to escape from the main tourist centres and venture into the heart of rural France.  In addition to improving our French we also have a lot of fun. Currently Jane and Tam are doing the bulk of organising our group.

Our Meetings

Meetings are informal, relaxed, great fun and well organised. Most meetings are currently held in The Hub Meeting Room, The Public Institute, Fochabers.

When most of the u3a is closed over the summer months the Conversational French Group meets occasionally, and informally, in order topractice our French. Regular members will be contacted by email or by our WhatsApp Group. We usually have a social event before Christmas and another social event in the summer.

French Immersion Holiday Opportunity

Last year, Aberdeen u3a French Group held a successful Immersion Holiday in Tours. This year they are going to Rouen and we have been invited to join them. The holiday is organised by a local Aberdeenshire company called "Horizons du Monde". You can stay with a local family or stay in local hotel accommodation. (Host family; half board; Hotel 3/4 board.) The dates of the holiday are the 4th to the 11th October, 2026.

The week works like this: In the morning there are lessons, (10 hours in total) at a Quality FLE accredited school with placement and a course certificate. There are pre-organised afternoon excursions and visits. You can download a Horizons du Monde brochure below.
