This was the first Moray Coast interest group up and running (sorry Walking). The group currently meets on the FOURTH WEDNESDAY of each month at 10.00am. The starting point and details for each walk will be conveyed to members via email. Group members are kept informed about planned walks, etc. via email.
The chats we have as we walk are as interesting as the scenery and wildlife we observe.
We try to end up at a destination where we can get a good tea or coffee and a cheese scone.
For further details about our Walking Group please click on the link at the top of the page to contact the Group Leader.
WALKING SAFETY
For their personal safety all walkers are asked to complete a form containing personal information including an emergency contact number and brief details of known medical conditions. Walkers keep this in a sealed envelope either in their rucksack or jacket. THE ENVELOPE WILL ONLY EVER BE OPENED IN THE CASE OF A SERIOUS MEDICAL EMERGENCY. A copy of this form can be downloaded by clicking the Button below.
April 2026 Walk

On this walk members of the group were looking out for signs of spring.
February 2026 Walk

The drummer on the Plainstones in the centre of Elgin.
The drummer would beat his drum as an early-morning alarm call to tell the citizens of Elgin that it was time to get up!
The monument on the top of Lady Hill has a statue at the top. The statue is a monument to George, the 5th Duke of Gordon.
Lady Hill is, according to local legend, the site of a much earlier fortification.

December 2025 Walk

The Lake at Gordon Castle. This was used as a fish-pond. Most of the old village of Fochabers was in this area before the lake was constructed. The old village was considered to be too close to the Gordon Castle. The old village was demolished and a new village was built in the current location.
Right: Walking in the grounds of Gordon Castle. The grounds contain many mature trees.

The March walk finished at cliff top lighthouse above Buckie Harbour. The March walk was very pleasant. It was dry with only a slight breeze.
